Vada Beatrice (Moneymaker) Phillips, of 431 Benson St., died at 9:50 a.m. Monday, April 19, 1999 at Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville.
She was born April 7, 1904, in Augusta County, a daughter of Risden and Rachel (Bright) Moneymaker.
Prior to retiring in 1970, she taught elementary school in the Augusta County Public School System for 46 years, and was a member of the Retired Teachers' Association. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the Golden Deeds Bible Class and the Helping Hands Circle.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 29, 1959. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbur and John Moneymaker: three sisters, Lena M. and Clara M. Botkin, and Lillie M. Sandridge; and a half-sister, Hazel Wampler. She was the last survivor of her immediate family.
Survivors include a half-sister, Reba Redifer of Mount Solon' a half-brother Raymond Moneymaker of Pennsylvania; a Brother-in-law, John Wampler of Churchville; nieces and nephews, including her nephew Calvin J. Botkin and his wife, Clara, who took care of her; and a very special great-great-great nephew Zachary A. Sumner.
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church by the Revs. J. Paul Rowe, Rudy L. Smith and W. Albert Massey, with burial at Thornrose Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Leonard and Jerry Phillips, Allen Sandridge, Michael Sumner, Ross Meadows, Raymond T. Conner Jr. and Joe Cox.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Golden Deeds Bible Class and Helping Hands Circle.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Henry Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin J. Botkin, 301 Greenwood Road Staunton.
