GALESBURG -- Raymond W. Palmer, 79, of 1556 E. Brooks St. died at 5:20 a.m. Sunday, June 12, 1994, at Rosewood Care Center of Galesburg. Born Sept. 16, 1914, in Galesburg to Joseph and Lillian Moneymaker Palmer, he married Geraldine "Jeri" Hobbs on Oct. 31, 1936, in Galesburg. She survives. Also surviving are one brother, Manley E. "Sonny" Bowman of East Galesburg, whom he raised; one sister, Dorothy McVey of Oquawka; three grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. Two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. He was a section foreman for the Burlington-Northern Railroad. A member of Laborers Union Local 538, he then was a laborer for Gunther Construction Co. for the past 20 years. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Knoxville Cemetery. The Rev. James Hazelwood will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville. Military rites will be conducted by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Memorials may be made to First Church of the Nazarene in Galesburg.
