Died Thursday, Feb. 15, 1990, at his residence in Duplessis. He was 73, and a native of Pollock. He was a retired Ethyl Corp. machinist and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visiting at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Religious services at Gonzales United Methodist Church, 1 p.m. Saturday, conducted by the Rev. Ken Jacocks. Burial in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker. Survived by wife, Mrs. Maude Brashear Shows, Duplessis; two daughters, Mrs. Priscilla Robert, Gonzales, and Mrs. Joan Melancon, Duplessis; three sons, Joseph W. Shows, Jacksonville, Fla., Auber "Skipper" Shows Jr., Baker, and Larry E. Shows, Hopewell, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Violet Phelps, Baton Rouge, and Mrs. Elayne Harper, Dallas, Texas; three brothers, Cullen Shows, Amite, the Rev. W.P. Shows, Hebron, Ark., and Ellis Shows, Baton Rouge; a great-uncle, Alton Hearne, Pollock; 20 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, the Rev. Lyman F. and Ellie Hearne Shows; three sisters, Elah Bodie, Thelma McLaurin and Laurene Moneymaker. Pallbearers will be grandsons, John Robert Jr., Joseph W. Shows Jr., Melvin Melancon Jr., Auber Shows Jr., Christopher Robert, James W. Shows, Timothy Shows and Michael Robert. He was a member of Gonzales United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Capitol Hospice Care.
